The D stands for “duh.”
Embattled real estate scion Robert Durst has come to the conclusion that it was “stupid” of him to participate in the HBO documentary series in which he appeared to cop to the 2000 murder of his friend.
Durst, who is awaiting trial in Los Angeles, told his friend Nathan Chavin that “The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst” is what put him in prison, according to a recorded jail phone call played in court Friday, the New York Post reported.
In the documentary, Durst is heard muttering to himself, “What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course.”
Shortly after the series finale aired, Durst was arrested on charges of murdering his friend Susan Berman. Durst has claimed he was high on meth while the documentary was being filmed.
Last week, Chavin, a longtime friend of both Durst and Berman, testified that the oddball millionaire admitted he had killed his friend during an after-dinner conversation in 2014.
Chavin testified last week during a hearing to record testimony from witnesses who may not be able to testify at Durst’s trial – which won’t begin before next year – either because they’re old or her fear for their safety.
Durst’s lawyers suggested Chavin made his story up, challenging him on cross-examination with transcripts of him denying that Durst killed Berman. The 73-year-old said he didn’t tell authorities about the alleged confession at first out of loyalty to Durst.
Chavin testified that Durst told Berman he had killed his first wife, Kathie, in 1982.
