Alhambra residents sue to stop Lowe’s project on Fremont

Alhambra residents are suing the city to block a project on S. Fremont Avenue developed by Charles Company and GTR Property Development, the Pasadena Star-News reported.

They allege that the project, which would include a Lowe’s store and a pair of six-story office buildings, was approved without a full environmental impact report in violation of the California Environmental Quality Act.

The residents are members of the local nonprofit group Grassroots Alhambra.

“It’s without question that the proposed project will have an adverse effect on the environment and lives for many residents,” Eric Sunada, a Grassroots Alhambra member, told the Star-News. “Because it is also being proposed in one of the most notoriously congested and contaminated areas not just within the city, but the region, gives us great cause for concern.”
