Barry Manilow’s former home hits the market for $14.8M

A retired professional hockey player from Russia is a seeking a major profit on the Malibu home he bought from Barry Manilow.

Alexander Mogilny and his wife, Natalie, purchased the home from the singer-songwriter in 2012 for $5.5 million, according to property records. The property on Malibu Road is expected to hit the market this week with a much higher ask of $14.8 million, The Real Deal has learned.

The 4,204-square-foot Contemporary home features five bedrooms, four bathrooms with a step down two-story living room and floor to ceiling glass windows. The gated property has unobstructed views of the coast from Point Dume to Santa Monica.

It first hit the market in December with an asking price of $16.8 million but was removed last month, according to listing details.

Mogilny made world news when, at 20, he defected from the Soviet Union in 1989 to play for the NHL. The athlete, who won the 2000 Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils, retired from hockey in 2006.
