A five-bedroom Santa Monica beach house with an impressive pedigree of former residents, most notably Hollywood legend Cary Grant, is on the market for $12 million.

The home on Palisades Beach Road sits on an 11,500 square foot compound a little more than a half mile north of the Santa Monica Pier on the Pacific Coast Highway. It was built for silent film star Norma Talmadge, who later sold it to Merle Oberon, who in 1939 sold it to its most famous owner — classic leading man Cary Grant.

Grant lived there with fellow actor Randolph Scott for a number of years, before Grant married his second wife, Barbara Hutton, in 1942. At that point, Scott moved out. Some time later, aviator and entrepreneur Howard Hughes lived at the house.

The house includes a four-car garage, a fountain courtyard, a wine cellar, and a master second-floor bedroom that overlooks the ocean. The back garden includes a pool and a paddle tennis court.

Jade Mills of Coldwell Banker will handle the listing when it officially hits the market later this week. The Wall Street Journal reported on the listing earlier Tuesday.
