SpaceX HQ is starting to attract attention in Hawthorne.

Developers continue building near Elon Musk’s rocket and spacecraft company, with the latest plan involving a dual-branded hotel.

Mogul Capital’s project will include a 221-room Marriott Courtyard and a 133-room TownePlace Suites, a couple of miles from SpaceX, according to Urbanize. They will open this summer.

In February, the site of a residential project near SpaceX got a new owner. Houston-based Dinerstein Companies purchased the property from Newport Beach-based Blackwood Real Estate for $18.2 million. Blackwood had proposed 305 apartments and a restaurant at the corner of Jack Northrop Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard. The controversial proposal was eventually approved.

The new hotel construction, meanwhile, is a bit unusual. Guerdon Modular Buildings is using a crane to stack pre-fabricated, modular rooms for the dual-branded hotel. The rooms arrive with furniture, carpet, curtains and artwork. The project is located near the intersection of El Segundo and Hawthorne boulevards.

Marriott is a fan of the modular model. The hotel giant announced plans for more than 50 hotels using modular construction.

The hotel industry in Los Angeles also continues its construction boom. For the first 10 months of last year, 4,700 new rooms opened in L.A. and another 5,209 were under construction. [Urbanize] — Hannah Madans
