Developer plans senior-affordable housing complex in Baldwin Hills

An affordable housing developer wants to build a 103-unit multifamily project for seniors and low-income renters in Baldwin Hills.

The plan by the West Los Angeles-based Meta Housing Corporation has 27 fewer units than the original project planned in June 2016, records show.

The latest filing with the Los Angeles Department of City Planning was on Friday for the development site at 4018 Buckingham Road. To be called “Metro@Buckingham,” the project would also neighbor one of its existing senior apartment complexes, Buckingham Place.

Metro@Buckingham will rise four stories, according to the filing. In February, the developer had filed plans for 102 units spread across five stories. Meta previously planned a 130-unit project there, and secured a $5.2 million mortgage with Century Housing for it in 2016. The Architects Collective designed the project.

Meta is marketing the project as within walking distance of the Crenshaw/Martin Luther King Jr Station on the upcoming Crenshaw/LAX light rail line. That is planned around the corner, near the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza Mall, which is set for a major redevelopment.
