The Port of LA is seeking a developer for Cabrillo Way Marina

The Port of Los Angeles is looking for a developer to redevelop a chunk of the 87-acre Cabrillo Way Marina in San Pedro.

The Port teased a request for proposals with a prospectus on the site last week. It includes a 12-acre commercial development site on the northeast side of the marina with entitlements for 90,000 square feet of commercial uses “ready for immediate development.”

But officials noted they are open to bigger projects. The Los Angeles Yacht Club, located across the Marina on its southwest side, is interested in moving to the development site, the prospectus said.

The Port, which is a department in the city of L.A., also wants to bring in a new marina operator. The marina includes 700 wet slips and support infrastructure. It was expanded and renovated in 2011 to the tune of $125 million.

Port officials have made some major moves over the last few years to redevelop properties in the massive complex. It recently signed a lease agreement with SpaceX for Terminal Island, where the commercial space company will construct and develop its massive rockets.

The Port also settled a years-long legal battle with the Ports O’ Call Restaurant, an anchor tenant in the Ports O’ Call “district” just north of the Cabrillo Way Marina. The Port and its partner, LA Waterfront Alliance, are developing a new public market on the site.
