Mary J. Blige sued for skipping out on rent on Beverly Hills pad
Former landlord charges singer owes $58K, including stolen audio equipment
Mary J. Blige’s former landlord in Beverly Hills is suing her for $58,000, alleging the R&B singer and her ex-husband skipped out on rent and took pricey audio equipment with them.
Blige and Martin “Kendu” Isaacs were paying $25,000 a month to live in the eight-bedroom, eight-bath home on Aubrey Road from May 2015 to May 2016, according to a suit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The owner, an entity called Golden Venus LLC, tracks to Shenzhen, China, according to property records.
Golden Venus claims in the suit that Blige and Isaacs breached their lease for the 7,488-square-foot residence in August 2016, and failed to pay their rent for September of 2016, which by that time had been raised to $27,000. The owners say they are owed $82,211, and are seeking $58,211, after deducting $24,000 from the couple’s security deposit.
The claimed damages include $16,000 for property repairs, $8,100 in real estate commissions to re-let the house, as well as $31,000 for audio equipment and a motorized projection system. Golden Venus says the couple removed the audio equipment from the house when they vacated the property.
The rental issues coincided with a difficult time for the couple. Blige filed for divorce from Isaacs in July 2016.
An attorney for Blige declined to comment on the suit, and a spokesperson for the singer did not return a call seeking comment.
