SPF:architects lists its distinctive Culver City office HQ

SPF:architects designed its distinctive Culver City building, and now it has decided to put the property on the market.

The 30,000-square-foot building at 8635 Washington Boulevard is being marketed for sale for around $40 million, The Real Deal has learned. SPF, which will vacate the building, is also making the space available for lease, for $6 per square foot. Andrew Sparks and Rene Garcia of the Sparks Agency have the listing.

The time seems right, with the Culver City neighborhood having experienced a recent resurgence, including Apples having taken a bigger bite out of its One Culver office space.

Dubbed MODAA, the building is home to the architect’s studio, a modeling agency and 2,200-square-foot art gallery. There are also seven live-work lofts that are being used as co-working spaces.

The studio, acting behind an LLC, paid $752,000 for the vacant lot in the early 1990s, records show. Led by Judit Fekete-Pali, founder and creative director of SPF, it then built the mixed-use complex in 2007, and renovated in 2017.

Its unique design, which features a facade that doubles as a rain screen, has earned the building several awards. Among the most prestigious are the American Architecture Award., AIA LA Citation Award and “Architecture as Art” designation by the city Cultural Affairs Commission.

The architecture firm is also behind Rockwood Capital’s WE3 tower at Water’s Edge and Anaheim Performing Arts Center, as well as several luxury single-family homes in Los Angeles.
