Last week was an eventful one in luxury real estate, with one of the largest reported transactions of 2019 taking place — the sale of a $30 million Beverly Hills estate with a colorful history.
The newsiest sale of the week, meanwhile, may have been billionaire supermarket magnate Ron Burkle offloading a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home in the Los Feliz neighborhood to an unidentified buyer for $18 million.

1091 Laurel Way | Beverly Hills | $30 million
This 15,000-square-foot home stands out for its numerous European architectural styles, and it was built to resemble the Peninsula Hotel in Paris. It has eight bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, and 30-foot ceilings. In 2014, when it was listed for $18 million, Curbed poked fun at its mishmash of architectural styles — which include Baroque, Rococo, Art Deco and Art Nouveau — calling it “amazingly awful.” The home was conceived of by dentist/real estate investor Leonid Glosman, who completed construction on his dream home in 1991. Before re-listing the estate at $30 million, Glosman painted over the murals of naked maidens playing violins, and modernized the interiors.
Alla Furman and Rayni Williams of Hilton & Hyland served as the property’s selling agents, and Diane Sockolov of Compass represented the buyers.
2607 Glendower Avenue | Los Angeles | $18 million
Billionaire Ron Burkle closed the sale Oct. 17 of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house in Los Feliz to an unidentified buyer. Burkle bought the real estate from the nonprofit Ennis House Foundation in 2011 for $4.5 million.
Modestly listed as, “One of the most iconic and important residential properties in America,” the house spans 5,500 square feet and includes 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths baths. The mountaintop home has appeared in the movie “Bladerunner” and 90s TV show “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” among other productions.
Branden Williams and Rayni Williams of Hilton & Hyland represented Burkle. Drew Fenton of Hilton & Hyland was broker for the buyer.
344 S. Rimpau Boulevard | Los Angeles | $13.8 million
The, 14-200-square-foot Spanish-style estate features an 18-seat movie theater with a 220-inch screen, massage room, indoor garden, six bedrooms, and eight bathrooms. Serena Shlomof and Michael Shlomof brokered the deal on behalf of the seller. Roger Perry with Rodeo Realty in Beverly Hills represented the buyer.
23674 Malibu Colony Road | Malibu | $12.3 million
The French countryside-stylized beach house spans 3,600 square feet with four beds and four baths. It was listed as, “The former home to countless movie and music industry moguls,” though the seller and buyer were not immediately identifiable. Cooper Mount of The Agency was listed as the selling agent, and Magnus Hellberg of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage served as broker for the buyer.
1506 Sorrento Drive | Pacific Palisades | $10.6 million
This 10,000-square-foot house is located in the Riviera neighborhood of the Pacific Palisades, abutting both the Pacific Palisades and Catalina Island. Aaron Kirman of Compass served as selling agent for the seven-bedroom, 11-bath abode. Jesse Chupack of Sotheby’s International Realty was the buying agent.
