Anschutz Entertainment Group is planning a 160-key hotel near its two Downtown Los Angeles live venues, the Staples Center and L.A. Live.

AEG filed plans for the property with the city this week, according to Urbanize. The 13-story hotel would rise on a parking lot at the corner of S. Grand Avenue and W. 11th Street.

AEG acquired that property in 2016 as part of a $48.5 million purchase of the neighboring Desmond building, where the company is headquartered.
Plans call for ground-floor retail space, conference rooms, a rooftop pool and bar, and a 75-vehicle subterranean parking garage.

AEG is working with the city on a $1.2 billion overhaul of its entertainment and event properties. It would add hotel rooms and integrate the L.A. Convention Center with the Staples Center and L.A. Live.

Around the corner at W. 12th Street and Margo Street, AECOM Capital is building a 258-key hotel with assistance in the form of $17.3 million in tax incentives from the city. AECOM is also working with Mack Urban on a two-tower development with 1,200 units. [Urbanize]Dennis Lynch
