Carmel Partners to bring 227 apartments to Alameda Marina

Project is part of larger development plan on 15 acres

San Francisco-based developer Carmel Partners has received approval to construct a seven-story, 227-unit multifamily building in Alameda, according to public records. The development is part of a larger project near the northern waterfront that will bring 373 housing units to the East Bay city.

The development is located at 300 Mosley Avenue, which is right across the street from Estuary Park and half a mile from the coast. The building will house one- and two-bedroom apartments which will range from 789 to 1,116 square feet, with 32 units set aside as affordable housing. The project will take up 2.6 acres of the 15 acres Carmel Partners secured for the larger development.

“This is exactly the kind of location that we, as a region, need to be putting more housing in,” Greg Pasquali from Carmel Partners said. “It is an existing demand where housing can be added with little environmental impact. This site is walkable to schools, grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants.… This is the stuff that people want to live around.”

Alameda has moved aggressively to bring more housing to the city. The largest current project is taking place at Alameda Point where Los Angeles-based Cypress Equity Investments plan to build 1,300 units right by the water. In addition to the housing units, the project will feature 35,000 square feet of retail.

Los Angeles-based Landsea Homes also plans on constructing 182 townhomes near Carmel’s project near the Northern Waterfront.

Residential units are not the only development projects in Alameda. Blue Rise Ventures, the owner of the Research Park at Marina Village in Alameda, has unveiled plans for a life science building on the last developable parcel at the northeast corner of the city. Plans call for a 120,000-square-foot campus for research and development.
