Beverly Hills mansion linked to Kurdistan family sells for $27M

Maison 613, owned by LLC linked to the Barzanis, enters contract after price cuts

Beverly Hills flats mansion Maison 613, which made headlines in 2019 when it sold to a limited liability company linked to the Barzani family of Kurdistan, has entered a pending sale for $27.3 million.

The 21,000-square-foot home located at 613 N. Canon Drive was a pending sale on May 15, according to listing sites. John Yarborough of Compass serves as the listing agent.

Maison 613 was listed for sale in August 2022 for about $30 million. It went through a couple of price reductions during the more than 250 days it was on the market. In December, the price was chopped to $29 million. In January, the price was cut to $27 million or $1,315 per square foot.

The house sold in 2018 for $27 million to the LLC later linked to the Barzanis, one of the most politically and financially powerful families in Iraq’s autonomous, oil-rich Kurdistan region. Masoud Barzani was president of Kurdistan from 2005 to 2017.

A listing agent’s description lists amenities for Maison 613 as a paneled library, an indoor basketball court, a beauty salon, a two-lane bowling alley and a commercial elevator. The mansion’s grounds stretch to almost an acre. The grounds include a one-bedroom guest house, as well as a swimming pool and spa. 

A 2019 Dirt.com article reported that Maison 613, and another Beverly Hills home owned by the LLC linked to the Barzanis, 945 Foothill Road, did not seem to be occupied.The Foothill Road mansion was purchased for $20 million in 2018, around the same time Maison 613 was purchased.

The Redfin listing compared Maison 613 to recent sales such as the March closing for 524 North Beverly Drive. The 11,000-square-foot mansion closed for $20 million.
