PIH Health, owner of Good Samaritan Hospital in Westlake, wants to redevelop 5.7 acres of parking lots. The question is: for what?

The Whittier-based company announced it wants to team up with an “experienced, financially capable developer” to redevelop properties that flank PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital at 1225 Wilshire Boulevard, Urbanize Los Angeles reported.

The properties include 5.7 acres on the north side of Wilshire Boulevard between Valencia Street and Witmer Street. The land serves as parking and for ancillary facilities for the hospital.

“The site’s strategic location and zoning classification present a distinct opportunity for a developer(s) to create a diverse array of mixed-use project(s),” PIH said in a statement.

The site was acquired by PIH Health when it bought the hospital campus in 2019 for an undisclosed price. Good Samaritan Hospital, founded in 1885 west of Downtown, has 408 beds.

PIH has tapped Matthew Tarpley and Tom Morsch of San Diego-based H2C Securities to help choose a developer.

In 2016, developer Sonny Astani opened a 218-unit apartment complex at 1501 Wilshire Boulevard, just west of the hospital, according to Urbanize. Intergulf Development is now building another 218-unit complex nearby at 495 South Hartford Avenue.
