“Revolt and protest”: Grant Cardone calls for lawsuits over LA fires

Real estate investor shares call out form with millions of followers on social media

Just hours after Grant Cardone called on Gov. Gavin Newsom to resign over his handling of the Los Angeles wildfires, the litigious head of Cardone Capital rallied his followers on social media to take legal action against the governor, the state and Los Angeles County.

Cardone took to X Thursday afternoon to call on those affected by the California wildfires and “interested in joining me in a class action suit against the state and county for neglect & incompetence,” to message him.

He tacked a link to a response form in the thread, which generated 183 comments from his 1.1 million X followers. Cardone also posted the call out on Instagram, where his follower count is 4.8 million.

Most replies praised the investor and some encouraged Cardone to run for governor. Newsom’s term is up in 2026 and term limits dictate he cannot run for re-election.

Cardone told The Real Deal he’d received more than 1,000 responses as of Friday morning.

“I’m talking to a handful of attorneys right now who want to represent me,” Cardone said in a phone interview.

The investor added that he would “probably include the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power” as a defendant, noting that electrical issues may have sparked the fires.

Faults on the power grid near the Eaton, Palisades and Hurst fires skyrocketed in the hours before the blazes began, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Cardone jumped on a Fox Business segment Thursday to describe how the Palisades Fire had severely damaged but ultimately spared his Malibu home.

He blamed “corrupted government” on the state and local level for the blazes and urged Californians to “revolt and protest” against the Democrats who failed to prevent fires.

As of Friday morning, the fires continue to ravage the greater Los Angeles market. Officials estimate 10 people have been killed and 10,000 homes and other buildings have burned, the AP reported

Class action callouts are a dime a dozen. But Cardone’s reach and reputation could drum up sizable support.

Some replies on X praised Cardone’s legal track record of winning “big cases.”

“Win with him! Then VOTE for him!” the account @MechTensa tweeted.

Cardone’s most recent involvement in a class action suit was as a defendant.

An investor in two Cardone Capital funds, then his daughter, sued Cardone over the tactics he tapped to recruit investors on social media. They alleged Cardone, who syndicates capital for deals, misled investors by overpromising returns, downplaying financial risks and failing to disclose the extent of the fees he’d reap.

A Los Angeles judge ultimately tossed the complaint on a technicality in late 2023.
