The owners of the Anaheim Ducks are poised to pour $1 billion into revamping Anaheim’s Honda Center, on top of their $4 billion retail village being built around the sports arena.
Henry and Susan Samueli, owners of the NHL hockey team, have filed plans to revamp the 20,000-seat arena at 2695 East Katella Avenue, Urbanize Los Angeles reported.
The project, dubbed Honda Center Encore, will be spearheaded by OC Sports & Entertainment, a Samueli affiliate that operates the 650,000-square-foot arena.
The comprehensive makeover, designed by Populous, will be completed in phases through 2027.
“This is more than just an investment in a venue — it’s an investment in Anaheim and the future of Orange County as a global destination for live entertainment,” Bill Foltz, CEO of OC Sports & Entertainment, said in a statement.
The renovation includes:
- A new five-story south entrance, with plans for a large digital display to host outdoor viewing parties.
- New escalators.
- A refresh of all food and beverage bars, including ten new restaurants and the introduction of self-service checkout for speed and convenience.
- A new club-level lounge, offering “curated food and beverages” with unmatched views of games.
- New opera box suites on the main concourse, plus a revamp of 68 luxury suites
- Three new parking garages with more than 6,000 stalls.
- Four new entry plazas, each with a distinct look.
The revamp of the Honda Center emerges as work ramps up for the adjoining OC Vibe development, a $4-billion project led by the Samueli family between the Santa Ana River and the 57 Freeway.
The 95-acre OC Vibe village includes 1.1 million square feet of offices, 230,000-square feet of shops and restaurants, two hotels with a combined 550 rooms, a 5,700-seat concert hall, 11,000 parking slots, plus 20 acres of parks and walkways near 1,500 homes.
