Nicki Minaj could lose $20M Hidden Hills home over unpaid debt

Rapper’s 12K sf manse could be seized after former security guard lawsuit

Nicki Minaj is in danger of losing her Barbie dream house.

The rapper’s Los Angeles-area mansion is at risk of being sold off due to a sizable unpaid debt that she and her husband, Kenneth Petty, have refused to pay, Us Weekly reported

The potential seizure stems from a 2019 alleged assault case involving Petty and a security guard, Thomas Weidenmuller, who worked at one of Minaj’s shows in Germany. Weidenmuller was awarded $503,000 by a court from Minaj and Petty, though he reportedly has yet to receive it. That led to the security guard asking the court on Oct. 6 to order Minaj’s home to be sold to help him collect the money he is owed.

Minaj owns an 11-bedroom, 16-bathroom home in Hidden Hills spanning 11,820 square feet. She purchased it in December 2022 for $19.5 million.

Weidenmuller said in his motion that he believes the home is worth enough to pay off the mortgage, liens and the debt he is owed. The plaintiff said that Minaj has a $13.3 million mortgage lien on the home and a “$722,151 homestead exemption — together just under $14 million.”

“The property’s current fair market value is appraised at $20 million, yielding approximately $6 million in equity beyond the lien and exemption. That amount is more than sufficient to satisfy the judgment, plus accrued interest and enforcement costs,” Weidenmuller said.

Weidenmuller alleged that while working at Minaj’s show on March 22, 2019, a fan broke through the security barrier and was able to get on stage with Minaj. She allegedly became upset with the security team, leading him to tell Petty about what happened. When Weidenmuller entered Minaj’s dressing room, he reportedly was greeted by Minaj, Petty and two security guards, and Petty “without warning” struck him in the face. The security guard was rushed to the hospital and doctors determined he suffered serious injuries and required surgery to fix his jaw.

The security guard is pursuing the seizure after Minaj and Petty failed to respond to his lawsuit, prompting the court to enter default judgments against the couple in March of last year.

“Although it is regrettable that the extraordinary measure of forcing the sale of Minaj’s dwelling is required, that result is entirely the product of her intransigence in not making payment,” Weidenmuller’s lawyer said. “Minaj is a global music superstar, estimated to have a net worth of anywhere between $150 [million and] 190 million, and is reportedly the highest paid female rap star in the world. There is little doubt that she is highly capable of paying the judgment in full and, yet, she has refused to do so despite multiple written requests for payment and levies served upon several of her suspected creditors.”
