Former Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto has scored a couple of wins beyond the baseball diamond.
The retired six-time All-Star notched the highest price for a single-family home sale in Hermosa Beach in the first nine months of the year, according to Los Angeles County tax assessor data recently made available and independent research. And he trounced billionaire venture capitalist Tim Draper’s record-setting $18.5 million sale on a per-square-foot basis.
A trust picked up Votto’s coastal modern-inspired home at 1932 The Strand for $14.4 million on July 31, per property records, just $100,000 off the list price. Clocking in at about 3,800 square feet, the home went for $3,790 per square foot. Draper’s 2023 sale amounted to $2,346 per square foot.

Votto bought the newly built property in late 2024 for $10.5 million, The Real Deal previously reported.
The three-story ocean-facing property has four bedrooms and five bathrooms. The home includes three areas for entertaining, automated lighting and window shades, four fireplaces, a 120-bottle wine wall and an elevator servicing all floors.
Strand Hill Properties’ Kevin Pratt and Brigitte Pratt marketed the property.
“Incredible home built by a reputable local builder in 2018 and a prime location in North Hermosa Beach!” Kevin Pratt emailed.
No. 2 on the top sales list in Hermosa Beach was a four-story, four-bedroom, six-bathroom house that went for nearly $11.1 million, a record on Hermosa Avenue.
The 4,753-square-foot home with a four-stop elevator at 2722 Hermosa Avenue sold for $2,326 per square foot, on April 25. Joseph Group’s Rachel Joseph and Will Joseph marketed the property on behalf of Dean C. Hallett, an executive coach and leadership trainer, and wife Kelli Hallett. The couple bought the home in December 2017 for $4.4 million, property records indicate.
“The Strand sales are typically outliers and people expect sales on The Strand to reach the $10 million-plus range,” said Rachel Joseph. “Why the sale at 2722 Hermosa Avenue is so special — that sale set a record sales price for any Hermosa Avenue single-family sale in the entire history of Hermosa Beach real estate. It still is the record-setting number.”
