Here’s the story of a lovely home that’s a part of L.A. history.
The Studio City house made famous by “The Brady Bunch” is in the process of becoming a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument, LAist reported. The home’s current owner, art collector Tina Trahan, is seeking historic designation for the property from the city with the support of preservationists.
The exterior of the house at 11222 Dilling Street was used in establishing shots during the iconic sitcom’s run from 1969 to 1974. Tourists drive by today to take pictures and reminisce on the memories associated with the show.
The home was built in 1959 and chosen by producers for its location not far away from the studio where interior shots were filmed, as well as its classic midcentury look outside.
In 2019, HGTV bought the house for the series “A Very Brady Renovation,” which invited cast members from the show to help rebuild the inside of the house to resemble the studio sets that interior shots were filmed on. Show-accurate touches include an open, split-level staircase to the kitchen and orange Formica countertops.
Once the renovation series wrapped, HGTV sold the house in 2023 to superfan Tina Trahan for $3.2 million. At the time, Trahan described the house as a must-buy, even if it might not make sense from an outside financial expert’s perspective.
“When I was buying it, I wasn’t thinking, ‘Oh, it was a great investment,'” Trahan told People in 2023. “When I buy art, it’s because I love the art. It’s not because, ‘Oh, I’m going to make money on this.’ Because… if you’re going to make money in art, you have to sell it. I buy art, and then I don’t sell it.”
Los Angeles’ Cultural Heritage Commission will send members to the property in the coming vote and later vote whether to recommend to the City Council that the property would be eligible for monument status. After that, the City Council will vote on whether to grant the designation. If approved, any major exterior alteration or proposal for demolition would trigger a review by city staff and the Cultural Heritage Commission.
