Mickey Rourke launches $100K fundraiser to avoid eviction from LA home

“The Wrestler” star served with notice last month

Hollywood actor Mickey Rourke is hoping to stay in his Los Angeles home with the help of crowdfunding.

“The Wrestler” star was served with a three-day notice of eviction from his Beverly Grove bungalow last month after his landlord, Eric Goldie, claimed he owes $59,100 in rent, the Hollywood Reporter reported. Recent court filings said Rourke failed to comply with the terms of that notice because “no person of suitable age or discretion” could be found at the home at 6520 Drexel Avenue, People and Realtor.com reported, though he was photographed outside the home on Jan. 1, per Page Six.

In the face of legal action from the landlord, Rourke approved the launch of a GoFundMe page called “Help Mickey Rourke Stay in His Home,” which is being managed by Liya-Joelle Jones, a member of his management team.

“Today, Mickey is facing a very real and urgent situation: the threat of eviction from his home,” the page reads. “This fundraiser is being created with Mickey’s full permission to help cover immediate housing-related expenses and prevent that from happening.”

Mickey Rourke is an icon — but his trajectory, as painful as it is, is also a deeply human one,” Jones wrote. “It is the story of someone who gave everything to his work, took real risks and paid real costs. Fame does not protect against hardship, and talent does not guarantee stability.”

Rourke first started leasing the 1926-built home in Beverly Grove in March last year at $5,200 per month. The rent was later raised to $7,000 per month. The landlord is asking a court to compel Rourke to pay both damages and legal fees.

The fundraiser has a goal of $100,000 and has raised more than $70,000 so far.

“Mickey is going through a very difficult time right now, and it’s been incredibly touching to see how many people care about him and want to help,” Jones told the Hollywood Reporter of the influx of funds.
