Ellen DeGeneres’ exile across the pond could be coming to an end.
The comedian and former talk show host closed the purchase of a $27.4 million estate in Montecito, Robb Report reported. The transaction marks DeGeneres’ first major purchase in the U.S. since she and wife Portia de Rossi relocated to the U.K. in late 2024 following President Donald Trump’s reelection.
The off-market deal for the mansion was completed through a trust tied to DeGeneres’ property holdings. The comedian bought the estate from Hollywood producer Brian Grazer, who paid $7.6 million for the parcel in 2012 and completed construction of the main residence three years later. Images of the home and its address have not been released due to the private nature of the sale, but public records disclose a size of more than 3 acres with an approximately 8,700-square-foot primary house, a few accompanying structures and a pickleball court, according to Robb Report.
Before purchasing two properties in England’s Cotswolds — a favorite location among well-to-do foreigners — DeGeneres and de Rossi built a real estate portfolio comprising multiple properties in Southern California. In 2024, they paid $32 million to buy back an 8-acre estate in Montecito they’d sold earlier that year for the same price. That same year, the couple sold a blufftop estate in Carpinteria for $96 million less than two years after acquiring it for $70 million.
DeGeneres and de Rossi have listed their 43-acre Kitesbridge Farm property in England for $30 million. The estate comes with a landscaped courtyard, multiple reception rooms and equestrian accommodations for de Rossi’s horses. “We needed a home that had a horse facility and pastures for them,” DeGeneres previously told the Wall Street Journal of the couple’s stipulations when looking for U.K. property. They also own a modern mansion on a large parcel in a nearby village.
It remains to be seen if the new digs in Montecito become the celebrity couple’s main residence or another investment for their continent-spanning real estate portfolio. — Chris Malone Méndez
