CAC rejects Coney Island casino
As expected, Coney Island will not get a casino.
The community advisory committee voted four to two, in favor of rejecting the proposal.
Borough President Antonio Reynoso, Council member Justin Brannan and Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, who each served on the committee themselves, voted against the proposal. The three confirmed last week that they intended to reject the project, with Reynoso calling it “deeply unimpressive and unresponsive to the needs, desires, and rich history of the Coney Island community.”
Assembly member Alec Brook-Krasny’s appointee, Marissa Solomon, also voted no.
Those who voted for the proposal included Gov. Kathy Hochul’s appointee, Portia Henry, and Alex Sommer, who was appointed by Mayor Eric Adams.
