Three Manhattan competitors already eliminated

Playing field for casino licenses has narrowed over last week

Several proposals in the gameshow-like competition for a downstate gaming license have already been eliminated.

The hardest hit area has been Manhattan. Soloviev’s proposed casino for a site next to the United Nations building was shot down earlier this week. Similarly, SL Green’s proposal in Times Square and Silverstein’s proposal near the Lincoln Tunnel were nixed by CACs last week.

The remaining proposals: A site next to Citi Field, from Mets owner Steve Cohen (which is looking very likely to get CAC approval); Bally’s proposed project in the Throgg’s Neck area of the Bronx; And on Coney Island, a development by Thor Equities, Saratoga Casino and the Chickasaw Nation. The Coney Island proposal is all but dead, with a critical share of its committee pledging to vote against it.
