Citi Habitats tapped the former manager of its Upper East Side office to fill the firm’s first senior managing director position, a job it created in March. Gordon Golub will manage the brokerage’s 17 managing directors and report directly to Citi Habitats COO Gary Malin.
This marks a management consolidation by Citi Habitats, which continues to shift its identity from a mostly rental firm to one that also brokers sales. The Corcoran Group, owned by conglomerate NRT, bought Citi Habitats in 2004, when it was noted for its rental business and as a pioneer in store-front offices in Manhattan. Expanding business prompted the creation of Golub’s new post, Malin told The Real Deal. The brokerage had eight Manhattan retail offices in the summer of 2002; now, it has 15.
“I’ve always wanted to create this position for the company,” Malin said. “It required someone who could walk in the shoes of my managers, someone who could walk in with credibility, and, for the most part, Gordon’s the right person for that job.”
Golub, 35, started at Citi Habitats as an agent 12 years ago. As managing director of the Upper East Side office for more than nine years, he helped grow that branch to more than 50 agents. It has become the top-producing Citi Habitats office for each of the last four years in combined rental and sales totals.
