Group showers and spas are the new lounge

Neighbors that shower together…stay together?

An experiential shower at Trump Plaza at Jersey City will give residents a chance to socialize while experiencing the rainstorm of their choice.

The amenity is one of several spanning over 42,000 square feet of space at 88 Morgan Street, where Trump Plaza is being developed by Donald Trump and Metro Homes LLC.

Media rooms, children playrooms, gyms and lounges — amenities that create a sense of community — are popular among developers and buyers. But water amenities are being aimed at young, hip and affluent buyers.

The Setai Condominium Residences at 40 Broad Street, the William Beaver House at 15 William Street and now Trump’s Jersey City project are spending money on aquatic bells and whistles.

According to Jacqueline Urgo, executive vice president at the Marketing Directors, which is marketing the Trump project, the shower is a “social” experience for up to four people. Shower dials are set and light, sound, water and aroma are adjusted to get a summer thunderstorm in the woods or whatever desired experience.

“We thought a water-themed amenity would draw interest because it’s a year-round amenity,” Urgo said. “It’s an indoor event.”

The shower is part of an “aqua grotto” that includes men’s and women’s steam and treatment rooms, individual spas, an enclosed heated thermal bath and co-ed steam and sauna.

“It’s a water experience, not a naked shower,” Urgo added.

Steve Kass, CEO of American Leisure, the company that conceptualized the “aqua grotto,” said the shower allows users to experience, for example, “a Caribbean storm that produces a tropical fruit and flower fragrance and a light reminiscent of a Caribbean setting.”

A summer experience includes a thunderstorm with flashes of lightning and sounds of thunder, which ends in a drizzle. Other showers include a polar mist, Arctic rain, a typical rainforest rain and an Atlantic Ocean storm.

Kass said the shower can be found in some spas and hotels, but this is the first time it’s been used in a residential development.

The Beaver House project by Andre Balazs, aimed at young Wall Streeters, features a glass Jacuzzi that is visible from the lobby, while the Setai offers a lavish spa area.
