Ruling: Landlords can’t hike rents after exiting Section 8

A Court of Appeals ruling yesterday dictates that landlords who exit the federal rent subsidy Section 8 program can’t hike rents to market-rate levels for tenants whose leases are up for renewal. The ruling found that the state’s rent-stabilization law applies to Section 8 tenants, who must, therefore, receive a renewal lease comparable to one that has expired. more [AMNY]
