As the number of South Florida homeowners facing foreclosure more than
tripled last year, more Miramar residents are calling officials with
complaints of seized properties not being maintained and becoming
unsanitary. And Miramar’s foreclosure prevention program passed last
year – which lends as much as $10,000 in aid to those facing unforeseen
foreclosures – does not protect many of the city’s victims, who
defaulted after payments on their adjustable rate mortgages increased.
