Crane collapse in Miami kills 2

A crane has collapsed at a Miami high-rise under construction, killing
two people just 10 days after the Turtle Bay crane collapse killed
seven in New York City. Another four people were injured at the site of Paramount
Bay at 2125 North Bayshore Drive, a 40-plus-story luxury condo tower on
Biscayne Bay. Fire department officials said the crane’s instability
had complicated rescue efforts. A house next to the site that was used
in the film “There’s Something About Mary” was partially destroyed when
a piece of the crane smashed through the roof at about 2 p.m. Bovis
Construction, the contractor involved in fatal accidents at the former
Deutsche Bank building and Trump Soho, was using the house as a
construction office. Florida does not require tower cranes and crane
operators to be licensed or regulated, but bills moving through the
state Legislature could change matters.
