Downtown Boynton Beach revitalization on hold

A master plan aimed at transforming downtown Boynton Beach into a
destination is facing delays, as home sales remain sluggish and new
construction has stalled. The plan, developed by consulting firm EDAW,
called for at least 1,000 residences framed around a new transit
station as well as other projects, to be developed through 2020; the
city was to grow by more than 500 households per year by then under the
plan. But West Palm Beach research firm Metrostudy reported a 65
percent drop-off in condos built or converted in 2007 from the prior
year. Only eight condo units were built in the second half of 2007, and
at least eight planned housing developments are currently on hold.
