Palm Beach County rental property owner George Kurtz faces fines from the village of Wellington for refusing to register through the town’s rental licensing program, even though a special magistrate on Wednesday ordered him to register by May 12. After that date, he faces fines of $25 a day for each of his units. Kurtz owns 18 rental houses in the village of about 55,000 residents, and claims the registration fee is a form of harassment. If Kurtz refuses to pay, the special magistrate may place a lien on Kurtz’s properties and later may request foreclosure.
