West Palm downtown revamp planned

Clematis Street may get a Lincoln Road-style makeover and turn into a pedestrian mall if a pair of West Palm Beach City commissioners can push the plan through. But business owners want an end to the construction that revived what was once an empty, dreary construction pit. Before that, the area underwent a transformation from drug zone to entertainment mecca. A proposed mini-makeover would run about $4 million, to be paid by the Downtown Development Authority, which hired planning firm Glatting Jackson to study the street. It is not known what a conversion to a pedestrian mall would cost, but it would likely be much more.
