A private nonprofit called National Trust for Historic Preservation has placed the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens in Miami and Bonnet House Museum & Gardens in Fort Lauderdale to its annual 11 Most Endangered Historic Places list. The organization, which does not enforce any preservation action, believes that both museums are threatened by adjacent high-rise development. The Related Group’s three-tower Grove Bay Residences threatens to obscure the mansion’s views, the trust maintains, although Grove Bay may not get required city approval. The trust said the Bonnet House’s views are threatened by a planned 18-story hotel 200 feet away.
