Demolition begins on Singer Island mall

Demolition has begun on the Ocean Mall on Singer Island, paving the way for a $50 million redevelopment of the site. By next year, 60,000 square feet of retail will open at the site. Completion of a five-story hotel there is slated for 2011. The project is scaled back from a $280 million proposal, which would have included a 28-story Marriott hotel.
