The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce has announced its support for a
city and county plan to expand two community redevelopment districts in
the city. The plan is expected to bring $2.9 billion into the area,
which would help pay off $484 million in construction debt for the
Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. It would also help pay
for a streetcar system, a new park, a tunnel to the Port of Miami and a
new baseball stadium for the Florida Marlins. The commissioners of
Miami and Miami-Dade had preliminary votes in December supporting the
projects, and are expected to vote on them individually by July.
