Growth limits eyed for Lake Ida

Delray Beach city commissioners on Tuesday gave preliminary approval to development restrictions in the Lake Ida. The new provisions would curb so-called McMansions by limiting one-story house footprints to no more than 40 percent of their lots, and upper floors to no more than 75 percent of the area of their ground floors. Another measure would require the combined area of a multistory house and all other exterior structures — including garages, carports and porte-cocheres — to take up no more than 35 percent of the lot, or 40 percent on the lake shores. The commission is scheduled to take a final vote June 17.
