The Broward school board will take its first vote today in
consideration of a $2.9 billion plan to build new schools over the next
five years. Construction on some of the county’s six planned schools
will be delayed due to the district’s tight budget this year. Plans for
a school proposed for the Sunrise area, which was expected to cost
around $20 million, will likely get nixed. The board will also consider
studies to determine the need for new buildings at the locations of
existing schools.
