Palm Beach County commissioners have approved a plan to allow the Max
Planck Society of Germany to set up a biomedical research institute on
the Florida International University campus in Jupiter. The deal for
the 6-acre site, which will have a 100,000-square-foot biomedical
complex, is worth $94 million, which started flowing in March after
funding was approved by the Florida Governor’s Office of Tourism, Trade
and Economic Development. The Business Development Board of Palm Beach
County estimates that the Max Planck Florida Institute will support the
creation of more than 1,800 jobs — both directly and indirectly —
over the next two decades, and generate more than $2 billion in
economic activity.
