Artspace offers affordable housing

The Sailboat Bend neighborhood in Fort Lauderdale now has a three-story
artist’s colony of sorts. The 37-unit Artspace Sailboat Bend Lofts,
located at 1310 Southwest 2nd Court, opened in January. The apartments
rent to artists for as little as $510 per month, helping to preserve the
diversity of the community, backers say. Artists who want to live there
must earn 50 to 60 percent of the county’s median income of $49,800 in
order to compete for space in Florida’s first development by Artspace
Projects Inc., a national nonprofit organization.
