Fay claims top 7,500

The state Office of Insurance Regulation reported that homeowners have filed 7,540 claims due to Tropical Storm Fay so far. Citizens Property Insurance Corp. has 1,714 claims so far, State Farm Florida Insurance Co. has 4,245, Universal Property and Casualty has 791 and USAA has 790, according to department spokesman Ed Domansky. He said it’s too early to tell if the claim totals are high or low. He said companies as well as state and federal agencies are still out in the field assessing the damage and the full magnitude of the storm.
