As the Canadian dollar remains strong and U.S. homes continue to decline in value, Canadians have become the biggest foreign buyers of American homes. Canadians have benefited from a strong housing market north of the border. Home prices increased 11 percent last year and are expected to increase 5.3 percent this year. Canadians had long been renting vacation spots in Florida, and are now buying properties there. Financing isn’t easy to come by. Some U.S. banks require Canadians to make down payments as big as 50 percent.
