Broward County wishes to move the luxury hotel slated to rise next to the convention center in Fort Lauderdale, shifting it away from the Intracoastal Waterway in order to protect views from the 17th Street Causeway. The change could increase the cost of the 27-story, 1,000-room project by $6 million, to $305 million. But Faulkner USA, who is developing the hotel with partner Hilton Hotels, says they will try to keep the cost down to the $299 million they cited when they beat a competing bid from Marriott.
