Citizens got too big, officials worry

Florida’s state-backed home insurer has gotten so big it’s become part of the problem, and the Citizens Property Insurance Corp. Mission Review Task Force will start exploring possible solutions at its first meeting today in Tampa. Florida legislators created the task force this year as part of efforts to get Citizens to its original mission as an insurer of last resort for Florida property owners. It’s now the state’s largest property insurer with nearly 1.2 million policies.
