Miami Beach commissioners fight casino efforts

Casino owners lobbying for a statewide constitutional amendment
allowing casino gambling in Florida have a new local foe in Miami Beach
Commissioner Jonah Wolfson. He wants to make sure Miami Beach remains a
no-gambling town, but proponents want to see the amendment on the
ballot in 2010. The only Miami Beach hotel that would qualify under the
amendment would be the newly renovated Fontainebleau. Former owner of
the resort Stephen Muss led the charge to bring casino gaming to
Miami-Dade in 1986, but was defeated at the polls.
