Obama commits to restoration of the Everglades

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama promised Thursday
to commit more federal money to restoration of the Everglades and other Florida environmental initiatives. His environmental proposals,
announced by former U.S  Senator and Florida Governor Bob Graham and U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, include protecting beaches from offshore sewage
pumping, cleaning up the St. John’s River and improving water quality, and building a bridge on the Tamiami Trail, a road that restricts the
flow of water. Meanwhile, Republican presidential candidate Sen. John
McCain also said during a visit to Florida in June that he supported federal funding for Everglades initiatives.
