Commercial landlords should monitor tenants during tough times to avoid problems with their own income, panelists at the RealShare Central Florida Conference said last week. REITs should help tenants find ways to reduce their own operating costs to stay in business, as they attempt to balance their own equity stakes between pursuing opportunities and funding operations, said Sandy Chace, senior vice president of Colonial Properties Trust.
