Library rebuilding plans halted

Plans to rebuild Boca Raton’s downtown library are on hold due to the economy, the city council said. Voters authorized the city to borrow nearly $20 million in 2003 to build a library in western Boca Raton and to rebuild the one downtown. The western library opened in January, but no date has been set to begin construction downtown. Some local residents argue that people need a library more in difficult economic times. But the city would need to raise taxes to go forward with the construction.
