Miami-Dade County Circuit Court Judge Gisela Cardonne-Ely is poised to
hear arguments in a dispute over the election process for county
property appraisers next week. Candidate Gwen Margolis sued the county
and her chief rival Pedro Garcia on Nov. 13 to stop a Dec. 16 runoff
between herself and Garcia. Margolis garnered 42 percent of the vote,
compared to Garcia’s 31 percent in a four-way race on Nov. 4. The
Miami-Dade County ordinance governing the election calls for a runoff
if a candidate fails to get a clear majority.
