The Delray Beach City Commission voted unanimously last
month that resident Frank McKinney must take down the elaborate
treehouse he
built for his daughter in 2001. The city first asked McKinney to take
down the
treehouse, which has a shower, a toilet and air conditioning and which
he built
without permits, in 2002. The treehouse also sits nearly in front of a
historic
1936 house built by architect John Volk, who also designed houses for
the Rockefellers and the Carnegies, and the city commission said the
treehouse blocks the public’s view of the Volk house. McKinney now says
he will
move the treehouse to the left of the Volk house if the city promises
to
approve it.
