Forbes.com looks at the country’s strongest markets for middle-class
housing. Ithaca, NY, secured the number one spot, with a median house
price of $179,000, up 5.9 percent over the last year, according to
research firm Zillow.com. Utica, NY, is among cities that have seen
home prices increase by more than 3 percent over the last year.
Nationally, home prices dropped 16 percent. None of the cities on the
top middle-class housing list has a median home price over $180,000.
The middle-class market also was not hurt by the condo speculation that
has affected cities and luxury developments, said Jonathan Miller,
president of residential real estate appraisal firm Miller Samuel.
