U.S. Sugar Corp. said yesterday it has a number of potential buyers for
180,000 acres of farmland the state hopes to purchase for Everglades
restoration. The company did not say who the prospective buyers were or
whether they had a chance of stopping U.S. Sugar’s proposed $1.34 billion deal with the state.
The South Florida Water Management District, charged with making a
decision on the agreement on the state’s behalf, has until Tuesday to
approve the proposed deal.
